Pompano Beach sits directly north of us, and it is the closest city on this whole list. It is a working beach town before it is anything else: the Pompano Beach Fishing Pier, the charter boats running out toward the Hillsboro Inlet, and a stretch of sand that fills up early on a Saturday.
Inland, Pompano spreads west across quiet residential blocks and the shops along Atlantic Boulevard. The city has been steadily rebuilding its beachfront and downtown for years, and there is always something new opening near the pier.
